One of my cousins and I made these for my little cousin's birthday party. They're kind of messy, and take a while, and they're a diabetics worst nightmare, but totally cute. Once you get everything prepped and ready to put together the process takes very little time, its the set up that is time consuming. These aren't the best pictures, and if you take your time they won't look nearly as sloppy as these.

Description

One of my cousins and I made these for my little cousin's birthday party. They're kind of messy, and take a while, and they're a diabetics worst nightmare, but totally cute. Once you get everything prepped and ready to put together the process takes very little time, its the set up that is time consuming. These aren't the best pictures, and if you take your time they won't look nearly as sloppy as these.

Instructions

  1. First, bake your cupcakes in cupcake wrapper, and allow them to cool. I do each step for every cupcake before I move on to the next step. It makes it go faster, in my opinion.

  2. While your cupcakes are cooling, twist apart your oreos and take out the filling. Cut or break each half into half again. You should wind up with 4 half circles per oreo. Each oreo will make 2 penguins.

  3. Your cupcakes need to cool for a few hours, so on to the next step. Cut all of your orange and yellow starburst into 1/4ths. Cut diagonally so you end up with 4 triangles. Each starburst can make 4 penguins.

  4. Cut your marshmallows into pretty thin slices. Each marshmallow can make about 5 penguins.

  5. Put frosting on each cupcake, and use that to stick a doughnut to the top.

  6. Put some frosting around the top, inside edge of the doughnuts, and use that to stick a doughnut hole to the doughnut.

  7. While all that is setting up, effectively "glueing" your various baked sweets together, break apart your chocolate and melt it, either in the microwave or on the stove. Keep stirring. If you want, you can buy a can of pillsbury chocolate frosting instead and pop it in the microwave instead. This will stay liquid a little longer.

  8. Hold your penguin by the cupcake and dip the whole thing, up to the wrapper. Make sure the whole thing is covered.

  9. Once the chocolate covering is dry, use frosting to stick on the oreo halves as wings, chocolate chips as eyes, and starbursts as beaks. The marshmallow slices should be sticky enough by themselves.

  10. Finally, add gummy fish to the cupcake, near the wing. You can use swedish fish, or do what my cousin and I did. We had a bunch of packages of Finding Nemo fruitsnacks. We picked out the cute ones and saved the rest in tupperwared for her little son to eat later. Hope you like them :)
