Stripped Skirt

It grips your hips...perfect for a curvy look!

I will try to get pictures for the how-to for the next skirt like this I make. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I made this bad boy spur of the moment. Use two old t-shirts: a lime-green polo (stretchy) and a regular black t-shirt (not stretchy). It's perfect. So you know, it is EASIER to use stretchy. It ties better.

The dimensions of this skirt are pretty simple. It's the same length all the way around, but depending on how tight you tie the knots, it hugs your curves.

Now...I'm not going to lie...I have some biiiig hips. Normally I do a pretty darn good job at hiding that, but with this skirt I don't need to. The fact that I have hips plays to my advantage in fact. Like I said...cuuuurvy.

You Will Need (8 things)

  • 2 Large T Shirt two different colors of your choice
  • Chalk
  • Thread
  • Needle
  • Sewing Machine optional
  • Fabric if you don't want to hack up your t shirts
  • Measuring Tape
  • Scissors

Steps (6 steps, 25 minutes)

  1. 1

Okay...first off. I don't have any pictures of how to do this. Sorries much. It really isn't hard though. I promise.

Step 1: Measure your hips. Now however wide your hips are, you want your t-shirt strips to be 10" or 12" longer than that. You need that extra so you can tie it.

  2. 2

Step 2: Take one of your t-shirts/fabric and, using the length you got from step 1, measure out how long you need each strip to be.

VERY IMPORTANT: Each strip should be 6" or 7" wide by (Your hip measurements + 10" or 12")". That's the basic formula.

  3. 3

Okay, so you know how long and wide each strip should be. Use the measuring tape and chalk to mark where you're cutting, then cut out the strips.

2 strips from each shirt. You can do more or less. But in this case, more is less. When you tie the skirt, the one side comes up. I tried to do it with just 2 strips. It hardly cleared my butt. So yeah, 4 is probably best.

  4. 4

Take each strip and measure 5" or 6" (depending if you gave each strip an extra 10" or 12") in on each side. Make a little mark with the chalk on the wrong side.

  5. 5

With each strip marked, put two strips together and start sewing. Make sure to start sewing from the marks you made on the wrong side. This leaves you extra hanging off. Don't worry, that's good.

  6. 6

Once you've got all the strips sewn together, you're done! Congratulations. Now, if you just tie this on, you WILL have leg/hip showing. If you DON'T want that, I recommend wearing spandex shorts underneath. I am in the pictures I took.
