  • Step 1

Measure your bust line using a measuring tape.

I will use 38 inches as an example.

Add 2 inches to your number.

Go to your local fabric store, like Joann's, and look for fabric that has the elastic ruching at the top [like maxi dresses].

Purchase 40 inches of that [example].

  • Step 2

If fabric is longer, cut to desired length, but make sure you leave about an inch seam allowance.

    Hem your bottom first:
With the inverse side of the fabric facing you, fold over the hem 1/4 of an inch, and then another 1/4 of an inch. Pin with pin needles as you go.

  • Step 3

Using your sewing machine, sew an edge stitch closer to the fabric, not the hem. Take out pin needles as you go.

  • Step 4

When you're done hemming, do the same to close the dress.
Make sure to stitch on the wrong side of the fabric.
You should probably hem at 1/2 and not 1/4 if you want your dress to be tighter.

    Turn your dress inside out.

    Voila!
