I agree---I think the bread works best with a lager or dark beer, and a little less water Happy The more beer, the better!!

I finally got to try it Happy It's good! I did use a light beer, and think it would be better with a lager, so I will try that next time. I ended up using only 1c water and a little more than half the beer...next time, thinking of only using 1/2c water and entire beer...more beer! haha

Youre awesome!
I just made these with Shiner Commerator (100 anniv. beer for a texan beer) and wow!
I did use a bottle though and had to add more flour....it was kinda cake like before I did.
Thank you for this awesome receipe!

OOH! I was just thinking, "I wonder what it would be like with Guinness?" and then read Betty's comment. I'm making this tomorrow -- we almost always have some Guinness in the house!

I always make them and they end up doughy (which is how I like them!). My husband loves them, but he would rather have them flat like a pancake (or flatter), so I usually try to compromise by making several batches Happy Thanks for trying it out!

I tried this out, and I think I made them too watery they ended up looking like pancakes. My brother loved them as pancakes though (I'm not sure he thought it was made with beer) and added syrup and jam to it. Happy

Hello Happy I used the beer because it tastes more "yeasty" to me, and I LOVE bread (especially when it's rising in the oven!) I'm not much of a drinker (and can't really tolerate liquors such as scotch or whiskey or rum), and I like the smell of beer, so I decided to try it! Thanks for the question Happy Tame

do you use beer so they taste like beer or because of the hops and yeast in beer (I've got that right with the hops and yeast thing right?) to make it go more like bread?

As to the substitute question, I'm experimenting with other items, such as maple syrup & honey (I know the honey one is good, I'll get back to you on the maple syrup). If you substitute about 1/2 cup of syrup or the same amount for the honey, that would probably work! I'll definitely get back to you on that one!
