Stitched In Scandinavia
The traditional flowery jackets from Floda in Dalarna are inspiring with their extravagant embroidery. Nowadays, though, not many people wear traditional clothes; instead they wear comfortable clothes made of jersey fabric. So why not combine the two?
This is quite a big project and will take a bit of time. It also requires patience and practice to be able to embroider onto the sleeves, because you won’t be sewing on even fabric.

Step 1
Transfer the design to cardboard or thick paper and cut out the templates. Place them on the jersey where you think they will work best. It’s easier to do this when someone is wearing the garment, so you can see clearly how the design forms around the body. Draw around the templates with a water-soluble pen. Start with the biggest flowers, and fill in with smaller ones plus leaves and stems. Work På embroidery, using an embroidery hoop where possible. Be careful not to pull the stitches too tight, especially on the sleeves.

Step 2
Wash the finished hoodie, either by hand or on a wool setting in a washing machine, and dry flat.
