About

This simple chunky circular scarf is knitted in the round on a circular knitting needle.

You will need to be able to do knit and purl stitches, cast on and cast off.

Use knit and purl stitches and 5 strands of Double knitting (DK) yarn held together to create a chunky looking scarf.

This project uses Stylecraft Twirl DK. It's 100% acrylic, a soft and non-itchy yarn but you could use any DK weight yarn to create this scarf.

Wear in a wraparound ‘figure of eight’ style.

You Will Need (2 things)

  • 5 skein Stylecraft Twirl Dk Yarn
  • 15mm Double Pointed Knitting Needles 80cm / 32inches long

Steps (4 steps, 180 minutes)

  1. 1

Cast on 85 stitches with 5 strands of DK yarn held together using size 15 mm circular needles.

Use size 15mm needles to keep the knitting loose and drape nicely. Smaller needles will make a stiff fabric.

The 5 strands can become twisted together during the cast on process. Be sure to keep the strands in order before starting to knit.

  2. 2

Place a maker for the start of the round, use a small piece of scrap yarn, Be sure to start with all stitches in line inside the ‘ring’ and not twisted.

  3. 3

Join for knitting in the round.
    Round 1; Knit
    Round 2 & 3; Purl
    Round 4 to 8; Knit
    Round 9 & 10; Purl
    Round 11; Knit
Cast off. Weave in all loose ends with blunt tapestry needle.

    TIP
Join any new ends at or near the marker, this will be the center back of the scarf and will help keep all woven in ends to this area.
