You Will Need (8 things)

  • Yarn
  • Background
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Paper
  • Watercolour paint
  • Glue
  • Foam egg
  • scrim

Steps (11 steps, 180 minutes)

  1. 1

We first need to weave our nest. You can use scrim which is the netting you use for rug hooking. I have also used the anti slip mats they sell that you put under carpets. I like to paint mine brown with some acrylic paint first.
Using brightly coloured yarn or fabric strips weave through the holes.

  2. 2

Select a background. I have used cardboard, wood and canvas. Paint it a nice sky blue using acrylic paint.

  3. 3

Add some clouds with white paint and a sponge.

  4. 4

While it is drying cut out a branch out of brown paper.

  5. 5

Glue to the bottom of your background.

  6. 6

Using a hot glue gun fold and glue the sides of your nest. Apply glue to the sides and bottom and flip and stick onto the branch.

  7. 7

Cut a bird shape out of paper. I like to use paper photocopied from a bird book.

  8. 8

I include the name of the bird I am making for further interest.

  9. 9

Paint with watercolour, add an eye if you wish and some fine details.

  10. 10

Cut a coloured foam egg in half.

  11. 11

Glue bird and egg into nest. Compose some poetry about Spring, just a line or two. You can print this off from your computer or stamp it. Add the words to your project.
