Description

I decided to make snowman button pins this year to give out to friends! I have a bunch of antique buttons and used other scraps I had around.

Instructions

  1. Gather different sized buttons for the body. I tried to use a small 2-hole button for the head (use the 2 holes as eyes--placed horizontally), a medium 2-hole button for the chest (use the 2 holes as "button" area--placed vertically), and a larger button for the bottom.

  2. Cut a small strip of felt (white is best as it blends in with the buttons and doesn't stick out) and glue the buttons to it in order (small, medium, large).Let dry. If wanted, add two small black beads as eyes. You could also use a tiny scrap of orange felt, a marker, or paint to make a "carrot" nose. Note: When gluing, make sure to put the items on wax paper or something plastic to dry, in case the glue bleeds through the felt!

  3. I cut out a small top hat out of felt for the head. I't a bit difficult to get the right proportion, so play around and don't feel bad if you mess up--it's only scraps of felt! It might also be easier to use stiffened felt instead of normal felt. You could also play around with other fabrics. Glue the top hat on the top button.

  4. Tie the scrap of cloth or twine around the neck for a scarf. You only need a tiny, thin scrap of fabric or twine, but it's better to leaver it longer and trim excess rather than try to tie a tiny length. I knotted the scarf on the side and put a bit of glue to hold it down. I also frayed the ends of the fabric by pulling out a few of the threads on the ends.

  5. Once the glue is dry, flip over your snowman and glue on the pin back. Always check to make sure the pin back works before gluing it on to an item! Let dry. Add any other decorations you would like.

  6. Give your pins away or wear them yourself!
