Inspired by a project in the family section of The Guardian. I came up with these cute baubles.

You Will Need (6 things)

  • 1 Old Newspaper
  • 2 Kitchen Roll Paper Towels Pieces
  • 1 Light Bulb s
  • Paint ( Poster or Acrylic)
  • String
  • Vaseline / Petroleum Jelly (Optional)

Steps (9 steps, 155 minutes)

  1. 1

Find an old lightbulb that you don't want any more.

  2. 2

If you want to reuse your light bulb you can try rubbing it with Vaseline or petroleum jelly and then later cutting the paper-mâché layers off.

  3. 3

Then cover the lightbulb in a layer of paper-mâché. (Cut up newspaper and watered down glue)

  4. 4

To make it easier you can prop up your light bulb in a thermos flask or plastic bottle. Remember to attach a piece of string or thread for hanging it up.

  5. 5

Leave the newspaper layer to dry. It might be best to leave it overnight.

  6. 6

After The Newspaper is dry cover the Bulb in a thin layer of kitchen roll or tissue paper to make a smother painting surface.

  7. 7

Then leave the Bulb to dry again.

  8. 8

When the bulb is dry you can paint it. I've done a penguin but I think a snowman would work as well. Or you could just do whatever takes your fancy!

  9. 9

To Decorate your penguin Cut out wings and a beak out of paper and paint them then stick on with PVA. Then Voila! One penguin Bauble!
