Jelly Filled
My cousin Stephanie has a gift for planning beautiful parties. I have drooled over many a charcuterie board she has thrown together. There is an art to such a thing; a sense of order while making it appear effortless. This quilt is an ode to her and those who make magic for others. The placement of the blocks gives an illusion of overlapping stars—and is easier than it looks. In fact, the hardest part will be deciding how scrappy to go. I opted for a less scrappy look by using
fat quarters. Even if you decide to use scraps or a precut 21/2 ̋ strip bundle, you can control some of the scrappiness by placing the prints in sections by color (or not). Read through the entire pattern first to help you decide what you’d like to do. No matter what you decide, this design is sure to impress—no magic wand required.

    CUTTING IT UP
This quilt uses 42 strips 21/2 ̋ × WOF. Since precut strip bundles usually contain 40 strips, supplement
with one fat quarter. Or for a less scrappy look, use 12 fat quarters as I did. Label each matching group A, B, and C as noted.

    CUTTING
    For the blocks
    40 precut strips + 1 fat quarter ...
    • From 24 Print A strips, subcut 1 rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 101/2 ̋ and 1 rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 121/2 ̋ per strip.
    • From 4 Print B strips, subcut 2 rectangles 21/2 ̋ × 81/2 ̋ and 2 rectangles 21/2 ̋ × 101/2 ̋ per strip.
    • From 1 fat quarter, cut 4 rectangles 21/2 ̋ × 81/2 ̋ and 4 rectangles 21/2 ̋ × 101/2 ̋. Add to the other Print B units to get 12 rectangles per size.
    • From 12 Print C strips, subcut 1 rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 121/2 ̋ and 1 rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 141/2 ̋ per strip.

    ... or 12 fat quarters
    • From each fat quarter, cut 8 vertical strips 21/2 ̋ × 181/2 ̋. Subcut the following:
    2 Print A rectangles 21/2 ̋ × 121/2 ̋ 2 Print A rectangles 21/2 ̋ × 101/2 ̋ 1 Print B rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 101/2 ̋
    1 Print B rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 81/2 ̋ 1 Print C rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 141/2 1 Print C rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 121/2 ̋

    Black fabric
    1 Print B rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 81/2 ̋ 1 Print C rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 141/2 1 Print C rectangle 21/2 ̋ × 121/2 ̋
    • Cut 5 strips 5 ̋ × WOF. Subcut 5 ̋ × 5 ̋ squares, 8 per strip, until you have 36.
    • Cut 9 strips 41/2 ̋ × WOF. Subcut 41/2 ̋ × 41/2 ̋ squares, 8 per strip, until you have 72.

    Cream fabric
    Cut 2 strips 141/2 ̋ × WOF. Subcut 21/2 ̋ × 141/2 ̋ rect- angles, 16 per strip, until you have 24.
    From the remnant, subcut 4 rectangles 21/2 ̋ × 121/2 ̋ and 4 rectangles
    21/2 ̋ × 101/2 ̋.
    Cut 2 strips 121/2 ̋ × WOF. Subcut 21/2 ̋ × 121/2 ̋ rect- angles, 16 per strip, until you have 32. Combine with the rectangles
cut in the first step to get 36 rectangles 21/2 ̋ × 121/2 ̋ total.
    Cut 2 strips 101/2 ̋ × WOF. Subcut 21/2 ̋ × 101/2 ̋ rect- angles, 16 per strip, until you have 32. Combine with the rectangles
cut in the first step to get 36 rectangles 21/2 ̋ × 101/2 ̋ total.
    Cut 6 strips 21/2 ̋ × WOF. Subcut 21/2 ̋ × 81/2 ̋ rect- angles, 4 per strip, until you have 24.
    Cut 5 strips 5 ̋ × WOF. Subcut 5 ̋ × 5 ̋ squares, 8 per strip, until you have 36.
