I came up with this for the Pencil and Crayon Challenge over at Craftster http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=450.0. and I wanted a spooky hair stick to wear during October to go with some of my Halloween themed clothing. It was cheap and easy to make - it cost less than $1 to make one of these.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Break off approx. 1/3 of the cube of Sculpey clay. Kneed and roll into a ball, then using your hands roll into a strip that is about an 1 1/4 inches longer than the pencil.

  2. Small picture 055 1283897595

Flatten out the strip with your fingers (if you wanted a smoother look you could use a rolling pin) so it will be enough to go around the pencil. Place the pencil so it is 1/4 inch from the bottom of the clay and there should be 1 inch over at the top of the pencil of the clay.

Wrap the clay around the pencil pinching together the edges then roll between your hands so it is more even.

  4. Small picture 057 1283897891

Pinch off a piece of Sculpey clay to make the head (should have about 1/2 of the brick of Sculpey left after you do) Roll it into a ball that is approximately 1 inch in diameter then pinch the sides at the bottom to create the "jaw" area. Pinch the back of the "skull" to the extended part of the Sculpey clay at the end of the pencil.

Using a pencil with a broken lead, push into the clay to gouge out the area for the eyes, repeat for the nose and for the teeth poke a row for the top teeth and for the bottom. I added 2 small plastic seed beads to they eyes before baking to make it look more scary. Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Allow to cool off and it is ready to wear!
