I am going away for two weeks and I made this to hold all of my supplies like my toothbrush, eyeliner, deodorant, nail polish, blah blah blah. It's kinda nifty and spacious, almost the size of a small clutch but it folds nicely too. The fabric was all things I had laying around. The red, flowery fabric came from my grandmother's scrap box, the lining is part of an old, black t-shirt and the skull was I think pajamas or something (I don't remember), anyway, the only thing I had to buy was a zipper, which was under 2 dollars!

Description

I am going away for two weeks and I made this to hold all of my supplies like my toothbrush, eyeliner, deodorant, nail polish, blah blah blah. It's kinda nifty and spacious, almost the size of a small clutch but it folds nicely too. The fabric was all things I had laying around. The red, flowery fabric came from my grandmother's scrap box, the lining is part of an old, black t-shirt and the skull was I think pajamas or something (I don't remember), anyway, the only thing I had to buy was a zipper, which was under 2 dollars!

Instructions

You'll need fabric for the outside, about a quarter to a half of a yard, and the same amount for the lining. You can add the skull if you want (sorry, I do not have a stencil) using a contrasting color but it's optional. I thought about adding some vintage tattoo inspired appliques, like sparrows or something but they were about ten dollars at the fabric store where I go. You'll also need a zipper, I used a 9 inch which was an inch too short so feel free to center it (like I didn't lol) or you can use a 12 inch and drape over each end.

  2. Cut out your pieces, one set for each color. So if it says cut two, you really need 4, two outside and two lining. Two 6''x10.5'' rectangles for the front and back. Two triangles with a 2.5'' base and 6'' sides for the sides. One 2.5''x10.5'' rectangle for the bottom.

  3. Attach each piece to its corresponding lining piece right sides together, but do not sew the front yet. On the front piece, attach the applique, then the lining.

  4. Sew the side pieces to the bottom on the shared 2.5'' edge. With the wrong sides together fold at seam and sew over, making piping.

  5. Sew the back and front to the bottom and sides using the shared 6'' and 10.5'' edges. Turn the bag inside out.

Open the zipper package and unzip. Line the sides of the zipper up with the side of the bag. Sew carefully, right sides together until you come to the place where the zipper stops. At each end, secure into the bag's lining and sew back and forth a couple times, to strengthen. Fill with your stuff and you are done!
