Description

Drawn with fabric markers, cut from a curved pattern, and constructed with a single pleat for a handy sized zipper clutch. Suitable for sunglasses and a few other spare parts. Finished Dimensions: 5.5 inches tall x 9 inches wide

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Using fabric markers by Crayola begin doodling your pattern on two plain fabric panels measuring 7.5″ tall x 12″ wide. Heat set according to manufacturers instructions.

  2. Small elm 2317 600x398

Cut main fabric to Pattern Piece “1.” Cut lining fabric to Pattern Piece “2.” Transfer and mark pleat points (on pattern) on the main (outer) fabric. Fold both outer points in toward center. Finger press and sew the pleat flat (1/4″ seam allowance).

  3. Small elm 2354 600x398

(OPTIONAL) If using piping, attach piping to the curved edge of one piece of main fabric.

  4. Small elm 2321 451x300

Place the main fabric face up and align one edge of the zipper to it (zipper head should be laying face down). Pin in place and sew with a zipper foot.

  5. Small elm 2327 600x398

Place lining fabric print side down on top of the main fabric (right side up) and attached zipper. The zipper should be laying flat against the main fabric as it was when sewn. Sew the lining to the zipper and main fabric. Press lining and main fabric away from zipper.

  6. Small elm 2332 600x398

    Repeat with other panels.

  7. Small elm 2336 600x398

Place the main outer fabric halves right sides together, pushing the zipper tail away from the main fabric, sew these two panels with a half inch seam allowance.

  8. Small elm 2341 600x398

Open zipper halfway and repeat the process with the lining. This time leave a 3-4″ hole to turn the bag right side out.

  9. Small elm 2344 600x398

Turn the bag right side out through the hole and flatten the piece, pushing out the curved edges of the lining and main fabrics. Pinch the hole shut and sew closed.

  10. Small elm 2394 600x398

Stuff lining inside the bag. You’re done.
