You Will Need (5 things)

  • Fabric Marker
  • Plain Fabric for exterior
  • Fabric for lining
  • 1 yd Bias Cord
  • 7" Zipper and zipper foot

Steps (10 steps, 40 minutes)

  1. 1

    Preparation:

Using fabric markers by Crayola begin doodling your pattern on two plain fabric panels measuring 7.5″ tall x 12″ wide. Heat set according to manufacturers instructions.

  2. 2

Cut main fabric to Pattern Piece “1.” Cut lining fabric to Pattern Piece “2.”

Transfer and mark pleat points (on pattern) on the main (outer) fabric.

Fold both outer points in toward center. Finger press and sew the pleat flat (1/4″ seam allowance).

  3. 3

(OPTIONAL) If using piping, attach piping to the curved edge of one piece of main fabric.

  4. 4

Place the main fabric face up and align one edge of the zipper to it (zipper head should be laying face down). Pin in place and sew with a zipper foot.

  5. 5

Place lining fabric print side down on top of the main fabric (right side up) and attached zipper. The zipper should be laying flat against the main fabric as it was when sewn. Sew the lining to the zipper and main fabric. Press lining and main fabric away from zipper.

  6. 6

    Repeat with other panels.

  7. 7

Place the main outer fabric halves right sides together, pushing the zipper tail away from the main fabric, sew these two panels with a half inch seam allowance.

  8. 8

Open zipper halfway and repeat the process with the lining. This time leave a 3-4″ hole to turn the bag right side out.

  9. 9

Turn the bag right side out through the hole and flatten the piece, pushing out the curved edges of the lining and main fabrics. Pinch the hole shut and sew closed.

  10. 10

Stuff lining inside the bag. You’re done.
