Singlet Mod For Girl

A quick and easy project you can do with that little girl in your life (even if it's just yourself!).

You can use any found objects you have for this. I just had these butterflies about, but you could use buttons or beads or ribbons (Oh My!) or pretty much anything you like.

Please note the time needed for the project does not include drying time. You will need to lay this out overnight to dry properly.

This project cost me next to nothing as I had everything lying around (even the top) from other projects.

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Needle And Thread
  • 3 Fabric Butterflies
  • 3 different colours of Fabric Paint (white, red and purple)
  • 1 T Shirt Or Singlet

Steps (5 steps, 20 minutes)

  1. 1

Lay your singlet down and place some newspaper in between the front and back of your top. This will stop the paint sticking your layers together and making a general mess of your work.

  2. 2

With your design in mind, take one colour of your fabric paint (I chose white) and draw four interconnecting heart (they should join at the "pointy" end) making a flower.

Dot these around the shirt, or just down one side (slightly out of line with each other) as I have.

  3. 3

Take your second colour and draw a very fine cross in the centre of your heart-shaped flower. As you can see (hopefully), I chose red.

  4. 4

Take your third colour (purple) and place dots at the four centre points of the cross and at the ends of each arm of the cross.

Next, draw swirly, loop-the-loop tendrils coming from the flowers.

Place one butterfly at the approximate end of each tendril and sew into place.

The more uneven it is, the better it looks. If you try and make it look too exact, it won't look right when someone is wearing it.

  5. 5

Place your shirt up somewhere high (that the cat can't reach) and allow to dry over night then, with a cool iron, turn your shirt inside out and gently iron, using a cloth over you painted design. This will help set it.

    And ...

    Voila!

    there you have it!
