This skirt is easy to make and doesn't take much time at all. It's perfect for if you want something new to wear, and you can completely customise it to suit your own tastes.
The first thing for you to do is choose a fabric that you like! Remember that the longer the fabric you use, the more flowy the skirt will be. I used 3m of this floral fabric. It's better to use a soft cotton, as thicker fabrics won't sit as nicely once they are all bunched up. At this point, if you wish you can overlock around the entire edge of your material, to prevent fraying.
Now sew the two ends of your fabric together, so that it forms a big circle of fabric. Don't forget to make when you sew the seams the right sides of the fabric are facing each other. If you don't have an overlocker, you can also do a zigzag stitch along the edge of your seam to ensure it won't fray.
Take your elastic and wrap it around your waist where you want the top of your skirt to sit. Make sure that it sits firmly around your waist and isn't too loose. Once you've got it at a length that's good for you, cut off any excess elastic (but leave a few spare cm's of fabric to overlap so you can sew it together).
Now you are going to sew a "tunnel" for the elastic to go through at the top of your skirt. Fold the top edge of the fabric down a few centimetres (it should just be slightly bigger than the width of your elastic, so that it can easily fit inside) and sew in place. When you get back to where you started sewing, leave a gap of a few centimetres, so that there is somewhere to start threading the elastic into your skirt.
Attach a safety pin to the end of your elastic and thread it all the way around the skirt until it comes back out the other side (The safety pin will make it easier to thread). At this point your skirt should be gathered and the size that you want. You can now sew the two ends of the elastic together. In order to make sure that the thread won't break as the elastic stretches, I recommend sewing a small box with a cross in it (as pictured).
Now all that's left to do is hem your skirt. Pin your skirt up to the length you want and and sew it in place. OPTIONAL: You can also make your skirt more unique by adding little details to it, such as sewing a ribbon of lace around the bottom, it's simple but can make quite a lot of difference! Now go out and enjoy spinning around in your brand new skirt!
