https://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/simple-flower-headband • Posted by Madanna

I was insipred to make this because my favourite headband snapped (sniff sniff) and i needed a new one. It's really simple to make and shouldn't take very long. I've made a few now but my favourite is still the first one i made, which is the red and black one, although i am liking the one i just made out of coloured hessian :-) Sorry some of the photos are a bit dark but i'm not used to my new camera yet :-)

Description

I was insipred to make this because my favourite headband snapped (sniff sniff) and i needed a new one. It's really simple to make and shouldn't take very long. I've made a few now but my favourite is still the first one i made, which is the red and black one, although i am liking the one i just made out of coloured hessian :-) Sorry some of the photos are a bit dark but i'm not used to my new camera yet :-)

Instructions

  1. Small cutoutpieces 1291321181

Cut out the pattern pieces (see attachment) from the contrasting colours of felt (or other material, but i used felt, am in the middle of making one with hessian and felt).

  2. Small place2pieces2gether 1291321376

Place the two big flower pieces on top of each other, sort of overlapping.

  3. Small placepiecesontop 1291321461

Then add the smaller two pieces on top also overlapping.

  4. Small sewflowerparts2gether 1291322147

Sew all the pieces together in the centre.

  5. Small finishedflower 1291322181

Sew the circular piece over the central stitches. The flower part is now finished :-D

  6. Small sewlengthstogether 1291322341

You only need to do this step if your felt was too short (i got A4 sheets of felt hence why i have to do it). Just get two of the long pieces and sew them together, needs to be neat cos you need to hide the stitches in the plait in the next step. Do this again until you have 3 long lengths.

  7. Small sew3together 1291322621

Sew the 3 lengths together at the top.

  8. Small plaitband 1291322686

Plait the three lengths. And sew the other end when the plait is finished.

  9. Small elastictoband 1291324331

Cut the elastic bobble so that you have a strip of elastic (or use a broken bobble like me, or normal elastic. Then pin it to the headband plait. Then sew the elastic to the band.(Check the fit before sewing both sides as i keep forgetting and ending up with a headband thats too big). The band is now complete.

  10. Small sewflowertoband 1291323564

Final Step sew the flower to the band, slightly to the side rather than in the middle.

  11. Small headbandfinished 1291324513

Your headband is now complete, and so is my first how-to. Yay! :-D
