About

I recently got a sewing machine, and even though I keep a pretty clean house, it kept getting dusty and had cat hair on it. Not cool. Also I didn't want to keep looking at it, and I was bored, and I wanted to actually use it for something lol. Anyway... Hope you like it :)

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Measuring Tape
  • Ribbon
  • Thread
  • Fabric

Steps (12 steps, 120 minutes)

  1. 1

First you will need to measure your sewing machine. You will need 3 different measurements.

  2. 2

1st: You will need to measure the length of your sewing machine from end to end. Make sure you measure from the most protruding points, leaving any room for knobs, etc.

My sewing machine measures 16 inches. Of course if I left off the knob it would be 15, so the cover wouldn't fit if I measured incorrectly.

  3. 3

2nd: Measure the height. Again, take into account any higher points like spool holders, bobin threaders, etc. My height was 12 inches.

  4. 4

3rd: You will need to measure the depth of the machine. (I forgot to take a side picture.)My depth was 6 inches.

  5. 5

Next pick your fabrics. Figure out how big you want your squares. I made mine 4.5 in x 4.5 in so that I could have a 1/4 inch seam between squares and the finished square would be 4 inches.

  6. 6

Pin your squares, right side together, and stitch up a side. Stitch on one square at a time until you have a strip of squares the length of your machine. in my case, since my length was 16 inches, and my squares were 4 inches, I needed 4 squares (4sqaures x 4in = 16in)

  7. 7

Since my machine is 12 inches tall, I needed 3 of the strips from the last step (3 squares x 4 inches= 12 inches) Sew these together lengthwise. You will end up with a small sheet that is 3sq x 4sq, or 12in x 16in. You will need to make 2 of these sheets. One will be the front, and one will be the back.

  8. 8

    For the sides I needed 12in x 6in, or 3sq x 2 sq.

  9. 9

For the top, I needed it to be 16in x 6in, or 4sq x 2 sq. My machine has a handle on top, so I cut a hole in the top measured to compensate.

  10. 10

Sew the sides to the top.

  11. 11

Turn it inside out and sew the sides together. When you flip it right-side out you should have a sort of box shape.

  12. 12

Trim the edges and handle hole with ribbon. Look forward to seeing your versions :)
