Build a Floating Shelf with Hidden Storage
A while back I was making a floating shelf and it had me thinking about all that wasted space inside the floating shelf. Then the light bulb went off! A false bottom with hidden storage! That was it! So off to the drawing board I went. After a few hiccups, this is what I came up with. And, believe it or not, I built it for about $30!

Step 1
After cutting the boards according to the cut list. I started by assembling the shelf using pocket holes, wood glue and screws.
Step 2
Then I assembled the false bottom using pocket holes, wood glue and screws.
Step 3
After finishing both parts with wood stain and polyurethane, I installed the piano hinge.
Step 4
Finally, I added the friction hinges to both sides and attached it to the wall with 2-1/2" wood screws into the studs.
