This is an easy project with colourful result
This is an easy project with colourful results. Glass hearts, millefiori donuts and lustred ovals are easily combined by simple knot work on coloured leather to give a vibrant feel to this jewellery set.

This design is ideal to personalise, simply choose different colours when selecting your beads and leather to give the set your own unique twist.

Smart tip

When trimming your leather, cut it at an angle with a pair of sharp scissors to give a more professional finish.

    Step 1

    Necklace

1 Cut 55cm of leather in both colours, hold them together and fold the thong in two. Pass the folded end through the centre of your millefiori donut, then pass the two open ends of the thong through the folded end and pull tight. Separate the leather so that you have one piece of each colour to make each side of the necklace. Measure approximately 9cm from the donut on each length and tie a knot to keep the leather together. Using a pair of half round/flat nose pliers attach a flat leather crimp to each end of the leather, holding both of the colours in place. Add your heavy hook to the loop in the flat leather crimp to complete the clasp.

2 To hold the decorative element, cut 15cm of leather in both colours, repeat as before to loop the leather through the bottom of the donut.

3 To add your beads thread them onto the short ends of leather underneath the donut. Take one silver foil heart thread onto one piece of leather, tie a knot to secure in place, and trim off the excess leather. For the lustred beads thread an oval then a round bead, tie a knot and trim off the excess. To complete your cluster, repeat for the other two lengths of leather. They should all be slightly different lengths, to make sure they hang neatly.

    Bracelet

1 Cut two lengths of 25cm in both colours of leather, hold one of each colour together and fold the thong in two Pass the folded end through the centre of your millefiori donut, then pass the two open ends of the thong through the folded end and pull tight. Tie a knot to keep it in place, repeat for the other two pieces of leather.

2 On the first side of the bracelet, pick up the two strands of leather that are the same colour, using a pair of half round/flat nose pliers attach a flat leather crimp to the end, holding them both in place. Onto the two remaining lengths, add your beads in the same way as you did for your necklace. With a heart on one strand and an oval and a round lustred bead on the other.

3 Repeat step 2 to for the other side your bracelet. Add your heavy hook to the loop in the flat leather crimp to complete the clasp.

    Earrings

1 Cut a 17cm length of leather in both colours. Hold them together and thread through the loop at the bottom of your long ball wire. Make sure that the long ball wire is in the middle of the leather and tie a knot just under the loop to keep it in place.

2 Add your beads in the same way as before, making sure that there is a heart on each colour of leather, then a single oval on one strand, and an oval and a round on the remaining strand, so that it forms a cluster. Trim off any excess leather.

3 Repeat to make a pair.
