I wanted a bean bag tray to use with my laptop, but after a quick look online I decided I could definitely make my own for a lot less money and it was going to look a lot better than what I'd seen. I decided to start out with a scrabble board as its my favourite board game, but you could use any board game, or start with a plain piece of card the right size and customise to your hearts content!

First up, pick your board game, obviously it doesn't have to be scrabble, but its my favourite, and its big enough to sit under my laptop, without being huge! I bought a new-to-me board rather than use the one I already had so the game is still complete.
Next up, you need some picture board, or thin mdf sheet, or really thick card, the same size as your game board. It needs to be thick enough to stop the game board from bending, and to add support to it if you are carrying anything about on it. I used the back of an old frame, a little bit smaller than the board, but does the job. Stick this to the back of your game board with a strong glue!
Now to make the bean bag. I used an old pillowcase. Use the board to mark out what size you need it, and then cut and sew to the size you need, remember to leave a hole so you can fill it.
I took some poly balls from an old bean bag that I don't like the cover of (look out for a future project!). Don't over fill the case or it won't sit comfortably, I filled mine about 2/3 of the way. Now sew up the hole, making sure there are no holes!!! (excuse the creases, not a big an of ironing)
Now to attach your bean bag to the board. I used the same glue as before and simply applied it to the bottom of the board, dropped the cushion on top and held it down for a bit to give it chance to stick. I don't know if its necessary (will depend on your glue), but I left mine the wrong way up for a few minutes, just to be sure it had bonded. And there you have it! A scrabble bean bag tray!
