Sassy Wizard Of Oz Tee

For my little Dorothy wannabe.

My 3 year old is Wizard of Oz crazy. She's on her 2nd pair of ruby slippers. So when my mom and I found a pair of blue and white gingham knee-pants at a thrift store, I knew a simple white tee shirt wouldn't be cool enough to show her Dorothy pride. I painted a fairly simple design and phrase on the front of a white tee (with a few stains), also bought at the thrift store.

Description

My 3 year old is Wizard of Oz crazy. She's on her 2nd pair of ruby slippers. So when my mom and I found a pair of blue and white gingham knee-pants at a thrift store, I knew a simple white tee shirt wouldn't be cool enough to show her Dorothy pride. I painted a fairly simple design and phrase on the front of a white tee (with a few stains), also bought at the thrift store.

Instructions

  1. BRB, I'm off to see the Wizard.

  2. Select your colors, set up your paints and supplies(cup of water, paint brushes, palette or paper plate). Paint the phrase you want on the shirt. Try to map out in your mind how many words you want per line, so that it comes out even. To bring emphasis on the magic of the Wizard, I switched from Dorothy's dress blue, to sparkly green. First I did a layer of plain green, then once it dried, I went over it a few times with a heavily glittered fabric paint.

  3. Decide on an image to compliment the phrase you chose, or don't. I chose to paint a stretch of the yellow brick road, and Toto trotting along it. Since Dorothy, of course, is represented by the child wearing the shirt.

  4. Finally, after your paint has dried, throw the shirt in the dryer for a little while, to set the image. It will be stiff, unless you wash it before wearing it, the first time.
