I made my bag 13" tall (allowing an 1 1/2' for the bottom) and 15" wide. Instead of adding another piece for the bottom I sewed the bottom corners to make it have a flat bottom. I also added a snap to the top to help keep things inside the bag. Also added interfacing for more body. Used material I had in my stash.
