I just purchased a pet bed pillow form from my local craft store, 2 1/2 yards of nice soft fleece (you could get 3 to be safe) and made my girl a bed. I chose the cute paw print fleece. All I did was lay the fleece out and then laid the pillow out on top, pinned where I would sew and made it so I could easily remove the pillow from the case to wash the case. She loves her new bed and sleeps on it all the time. It might not take a full hour, but I did have my dog help me quite a bit. :)
