Instructions

  1. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 132517 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.24.53

With the paper square placed right side down, fold in half vertically to make a rectangle and then fold in half horizontally.

  2. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 132611 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.25.37

Fold in half horizontally again to make a thinner rectangle, then open out to a half square again.

  3. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 132633 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.25.50

Now fold both top and bottom edges in so they meet at the centre fold.

  4. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 132641 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.25.57

Open the square out and you should now have seven folds.

  5. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 132838 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.28.10

Starting at one edge, pleat the folds (folding one way then the other) to form a narrow strip.

  6. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 132849 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.28.19

Repeat steps 1–5 with the other square.

  7. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 132926 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.29.11

With the paper right side down, stick a strip of double-sided tape down both edges of one square parallel to the fold. Repeat on one edge of the other square.

  8. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 132940 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.28.56

Remove the top layer of the tape on one edge of the first square then place the untaped edge of the second square on top of it with wrong sides together. Make sure the line where the squares are joined is folded to form a valley.

  9. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 133024 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.29.54

Fold one of the corners at an angle as shown.

  10. Cut it off and use the cut piece as a template for cutting the other side.

  11. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 133149 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.30.50

Fold the piece into its first pleat and then cut the corners of the next pleat to match the first ones.

  12. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 133200 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.30.57

    Repeat this for one square...

  13. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 133209 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.31.05

then fold over and repeat for the other square.

  14. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 133216 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.31.11

Continue folding and cutting until you reach the end of the squares.

  15. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 133332 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.33.14

Now cut a little triangular notch in the middle on both sides for the thread.

  16. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 133412 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.33.22

Cut larger slits in the folded edges, either side of the notch...

  17. Small 116249 2f2017 04 05 133525 screen%2bshot%2b2017 04 05%2bat%2b14.34.17
