Steps (25 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

Start by cutting a card rectangle for your template. This should measure to the same width and height you'd like your final bow. Our one measured 6" by 2.5".

  2. 2

Fold the tweed in half and pin the template to the top of the fabric, at the folded edge.

  3. 3

Cut around the sides and bottom edge leaving 1/2" seam allowance.

  4. 4

Remove the template, unfold the tweed rectangle and thread a needle.

  5. 5

Fold the top and bottom edges in by 1/2" and pin in place. Sew a running stitch along the top and bottom edges to secure and remove the pins.

  6. 6

Cut off any excess fabric with a pair of pinking scissors to help prevent fraying.

  7. 7

Now fold the left and right sides in by 1/2" and pin.

  8. 8

Fold the rectangle in half vertically and pin along the bottom.

  9. 9

Using the needle and thread, stitch around the open edges of the rectangle.

  10. 10

Pinch the bow in the middle and secure the bow shape with a couple of stitches.

  11. 11

Cut a small rectangle of tweed to make the bow loop. This should measure roughly 2" x 1.5".

  12. 12

Pin the top and bottom edges over a little.

  13. 13

And sew the edges like before.

  14. 14

Fold the sides of the rectangle in by 1/4" and pin.

  15. 15

Stitch up the open edge at the back.

  16. 16

Stitch the top and bottom edges of the rectangle together to form a loop.

  17. 17

    Place this over your bow.

  18. 18

Measure the circumference of your neck and then cut a rectangle of tweed, 6" tall x the length of the neck plus 2" at either side.

  19. 19

Fold the side edges over by 1/2" and pin.

  20. 20

    Sew in place.

  21. 21

Fold the bottom and top edges in so that the meet in the middle of the rectangle and pin in place.

  22. 22

Sew the two edges together along the middle, forming the collar for the bow-tie.

  23. 23

Stitch a snap button to either side of the collar, making sure it's the perfect fit.

  24. 24

Slip the bow-tie in to the middle of your collar.

  25. 25

Try it on and you're done!
