you can't see it, but the fabric is right side up, the zipper is teeth down, then the top of this sandwich is the cereal bag. i thought I would take the opportunity to show you how I do zippers again. I am super lazy, so I don't switch to a zipper foot. I have a stitch setting that puts the needle to the left. I can adjust how close it gets to the side of the foot on the display.
I flip the fabrics to the right side and top stitch them down to keep them out of the zipper teeth.
repeat on the other side. at this point you are going to have 2 open short ends and you are attaching the second long side to the zipper. after the interior zipper seam is done, you have to flip the bag right side out through one of the shorter ends to do the top stitching. This takes a little work because you can't unzip the zipper to lay it flat. it isn't any different than other "tight" spot stitching, just take your time.
after you get the top stitching done, flip the bag inside out again. Leave your zipper about half way open so you have a way to flip it right side out again. flatten it out. I position the zipper just a little low on one side, instead of the top. you are going to sew down both side seams. you can sew through plastic zipper teeth, and this will stop the zipper pull from going all the way off.
