RECYCLED MASQUERADE MASK WITH FEATHERS
This project is from my new book PULP FICTION: PERFECT PAPER PROJECTS

I love masks. There is nothing more fun than showing up at a costume party and hanging out with people who don’t know it’s you. At least until I laugh, that’s always the dead give away. I love the simplicity and elegance of this mask and the fact that I could make it from things I had hanging around my craft house.

You Will Need (12 things)

  • Scissors
  • 1 yard Sequin Trim
  • X Acto Knife
  • 5 Old Book Pages
  • Elmer's Glue
  • Wire Cutters
  • 1" wide flat Paintbrush
  • 1 yard 1/2 wide Ribbon
  • Hole Punch
  • 12-15 Rhinestone(s)
  • medium gage Wire strong but easy to bend
  • 5" x 8" piece of Cardboard

Steps (10 steps, 60 minutes)

  1. 1

Cut out the mask pattern in cardboard and slightly bend in a curve. Try it on your face for size and comfort.

  2. 2

Using Elmer’s glue that’s been watered down a little bit, glue the pages to the front and back of the mask. Since the mask will be a tiny bit wet from the glue now is the time to decide exactly what shape you want it to have. It's easy to bend into shape at this time.

  3. 3

For the each feather you will take one book page and fold it in half.

Spread a layer of Elmer’s glue on one half.
Insert a 8” piece of wire in between the pages and seal it in between and let dry.

  4. 4

When fully dry, cut out your feather shape and carefully cut the feather as shown

  5. 5

When your mask is dry, cut out the eyes with your X-acto knife.

  6. 6

Hot glue your trim around the mask and the eyes.

  7. 7

Position the feathers on the center of the mask and hot glue in place.

  8. 8

Hot glue on the rhinestones in the center to cover the wire at the end of the feathers and a the sides of the eyes. Be creative, you could use tons of rhinestones here!

  9. 9

Punch a hole in the side of your mask and thread 18" of ribbon through each side so that you can tie it on your beautiful head and you're done!

  10. 10

A picture of the actual mask on the cover of my new book. Enjoy!
