Cut Out + Keep

Recon: Pink Flats

a pair of old flats turned into a pair of new shoes!

The five hours is a rough estimate, but keep in mind it was spread over a week and the and sewing/stitching can take some time. This is my first real recon project I've put a lotta time into, and I'm very happy with the result. I wore them on Tuesday to school, and I had told people about them and stuff, and I got comments from a few of my friends that it was 'so creative' and that I'm going to be on Project Runway... and now people think I design my own clothes which I don't really. Anyways... If you wanna know how I did it, send me a message and I'll start work on a how-to! I took pictures through out the process if any one would want to see.

Instructions

  1. Small 14700

•To Start- Gather all of your supplies, sometimes you’ll find a more useful tool from your own experience than what is listed.

  2. Small 14701

•After deciding on a pair of flats to work with, take a pair of scissors, or a seam ripper- it’s a little less to the fabric.

  3. Small 14702

•Start making alterations in the shape of the flat by trimming away parts where so choose, remember to repeat this on its left or right counterpart evenly.

  4. Small 14703

•Now, start cutting pieces of fabric to cover the outsides, for the toe region you can use various fabric scraps or one type of fabric, to create a slightly creative grunge or eccentric look by sewing small strips by machine (or hand) to a base piece.

  5. Small 14704

•Now start pinning your fabric pieces to the body of the flat, except the toe piece and sew on by hand. (OPTIONAL: Before sewing/stitching you can use an iron on adhesive to tack the fabric pieces in place.)

  6. Small 14706

•After all the pieces have been adhered and sewn/stitched on, you can pin or clip the toe piece in place before sewing.

  7. Small 14707

•You’ll then stitch the toe piece in place and trim off any excess fabric.
