Realistic Duct Tape Rose

Fun and fairly simple. :]

I've always been looking for new ways to make a duct tape rose look more realistic, and I think I came pretty close with this one!

This is my first tutorial, so I hope it's not too hard to follow. :]

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Flat Surface
  • Very sharp Scissors
  • 2 Rolls Of Duck Tape (Different Colors)
  • 1 Bamboo Skewer

Steps (25 steps, 45 minutes)

  1. 1

Cut a piece of duct tape (the color you want for your stem) the same length as the skewer. Lay the skewer on the very edge of the tape

  2. 2

Roll the skewer so that it gets wrapped in the tape so it looks like a stem.

  3. 3

Make a square of duct tape fabric with your petal color, approximately 5 1/2 inches by 5 1/2 inches. Cut off any excess duct tape so you have a near perfect square.

PS, if you don't know how to make duct tape fabric just google it. ;]

  4. 4

    Fold the square in half.

  5. 5

Fold it in half again so you have a mini-square.

  6. 6

Cut a teardrop shape out of the square. Make sure you don't cut the part that keeps everything together off.

DO NOT THROW AWAY THE STUFF YOU CUT OFF, WE ARE GOING TO USE THAT!

  7. 7

When you open it up, it should look like this. The bigger the petals, the bigger the flower will be.

  8. 8

Fold it back up into the mini-square and cut just a bit of the pointy part of the teardrop off.

  9. 9

Now, there should be a small hole in the center.

  10. 10

Repeat steps 3-9 and place the petals off to the side for now.

  11. 11

Now, pick up the bits you cut off the petals and cut individual teardrop shapes out of those. Make three or four of these.

  12. 12

This is what they should look like, or at least something like those.

  13. 13

Now, tape the newly cut teardrops onto the stem with small strips on duct tape like shown in the picture.

  14. 14

After you've put all your teardrops on the stem, pinch one petal and roll it in between your fingers so it gives it some shape.

  15. 15

Do the same to the rest of the teardrops so they look like the picture.

  16. 16

Now, take the petals you set aside and tape the sides together so it forms a cup. The sides should overlap some so it gives it the right shape.

  17. 17

Slip the first cup onto the stem through the hole you cut earlier.

  18. 18

Slip the second cup on and arrange the petals how you want.

  19. 19

Secure the cups onto the stem with some more strips of tape. I used the stem color.

  20. 20

Role these petals as well to give them shape.

  21. 21

Take a small strip of duct tape, about three inches in length.

  22. 22

    Fold over one corner.

  23. 23

    Then the other.

  24. 24

Wrap sticky part around the stem so it covers up the tape you used to secure the petals. Repeat as many times as you want around the base of the petals.

  25. 25

    Ta-da! You're done!
