Shawl made out of charm packs. Really great for using up faric scraps as the squares can be cut to any size.

You Will Need (8 things)

  • Cutting Mat / Rotary Cutter
  • Thread
  • ½ m Binding Fabric
  • Wadding
  • 1 Fabric Squares@ 4"
  • 1 ½ m Backing Fabric
  • 7 Fabric Squares@ 5?”
  • 1 packets Charm Pack+ 7 extra 5" pieces (49 pieces)

Steps (17 steps, 300 minutes)

  1. 1

    Take the 5?” squares and cut them on the diagonal so there will be 14 half triangles.

  2. 2

    Take the 4” square and cut on the diagonal. You only need 1 half square triangle for 1 shawl.

  3. 3

    Starting at the narrow end, piece together as follows (make sure the end triangles face downwards as shown in the picture).

    Join the one half triangle from the 4” square to the bottom of the row 1 square.

    Join 2 half square triangles from the 5?” square to either side of the square.

  5. 5

    Join the 3 squares to together.

  6. 6

    Join 2 half square triangles from the 5?” square to either side of the square.

  7. 7

    Join the 5 squares to together.

  8. 8

    Join 2 half square triangles from the 5?” square to either side of the square.

  9. 9

    Join the 7 squares to together and then join 2 half square triangles from the 5?” square to either side of the square.

  10. 10

    Join the 9 squares to together and then join 2 half square triangles from the 5?” square to either side of the square.

  11. 11

    Join the 11 squares to together and then join 2 half square triangles from the 5?” square to either side of the square.

    Join the 13 squares to together and then join 2 half square triangles from the 5?” square to either side of the square.

    Join row 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 to 6 to 7. You should have a triangular shape.

    The first 3 rows should look like picture.

    Cut backing fabric and wadding diagonally and sandwich the shawl – backing + wadding + shawl top

    Either quilt the sandwich or use decorative stitches along the seams.

    Get your Binding ready. Cut the 0.5m fabric into 2.5" strips x width of fabric and join these together to get a length of 180" or more. This should be 2½” x 180”

    Sew binding to shawl to finish of.
