About

This Halloween Costume is so cute. I am going to make the top for myself to wear to my daughter's preschool party. Also, it would be great for a maternity costume. You could really round it out.

I actually got most of the stuff from the dollar store, including t-shirt, felt, ribbon, glue sticks, and headband.

You could make this in long sleeve. My idea actually was to have my daughter wear it over a green sweatsuit or her coat.

You Will Need (5 things)

  • 1 orange T Shirt
  • green and black Felt
  • Ribbon
  • Headband
  • Cord Elastic

Steps (8 steps, 20 minutes)

  1. 1

I cut the face out from black felt. No pattern needed - it is a pumpkin after all. Then, I fused it down with craft fuse. You could also use high temp hot glue (if you don't care about ever washing it)or fabric glue. My iron is on its last legs, so I also top stitched around the applique, but that really isn't necessary. One word of advice, stick some cardboard or paper up inside the shirt. You don't want the shirt glued together or spots from glue on the back of the shirt.

  2. 2

Next, I snipped a hole in the bottom hem on the inside of the shirt. I used a safety pin the thread in elastic. I made the elastic about 5 inches smaller than the circumference of the shirt.

  3. 3

I stitched the ends of the elastic together. For the no sew version, I would use elastic cord and just tie the ends together.

  4. 4

I wanted to make the arms a little cuter so I snipped a 2 holes in the top, threaded ribbon through, tied a bow, and made a gathered sleeve.

    Here is the sleeve.

I thought that it needed a hat to make it cute. I took a doubled piece a felt and cut out a leaf shape. I also cut out a little rectangle (doubled) for the stem. I glued the 2 pieces of leaf together. For the stem, glue it together about 1/2 way down. Once that is dry, open the unglued ends. Put glue on them and then stick them onto the leaf. This will make the stem stand up straight off of the leaf. Then I glued a big bow on top of everything.

Finally, I glued it all down onto a headband.

    Here is the finished headband.
