Princess Peach Dress

A Lolitta version of a much loved character

https://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/princess-peach-dress • Posted by Hello Sweet Taco

One of my favorite characters is Princess Peach from the Super Mario Brothers games. This costume is based off her Super Smash Brothers Brawl dress but with a bit of a twist. As it was one of my first costumes I decided to make it a little easier for myself and instead of making the full dress, make a shorter one. I saw a shorter texture of Peaches dress that someone made on Super Smash Brothers Brawl, So mine is based off that, you could even say it's a Lolitta version!

Gather your fabric. I wen't off the official Brawl picture and to me, it looked like there were a few different pinks in there. I bought around 2 meters of light pink for the top and skirt, 1 meter of the medium pink for the inside of the skirt and about 1/2-1 meter of dark Pink for the trims. I also picked the lace I thought best suited the original design. I actually used this amazing tutorial >>> http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/diy-circle-skirt and made a circle skirt for the underneath panels (just cutting them in 3 and sewing them back into a circle) and for the over-skirt; which I cut down the middle and rounded the edges so it showed the under-skirt. I attached my lace and sewed in the dark pink detailing. I used the bias binding on the edge of the outer skirt.

this is the finished skirt piece. I really just winged it and thankfully it turned out okay. I made the puffy side parts buy cutting a super wide rectangle, hemming the edges and scrunching them up to form a puff, then i sewed them onto the sides of the skirt. I free handed the outline of the pattern (using a removable fabric pencil) on the side of the skirt buy looking at reference images, you could make a stencil or use transfer paper. I used gold fabric paint to fill in the design

The top half. I used one of my dresses as a 'pattern' for the top, but instead of keeping it full I cut out panels. I wasn't sure how to do the 'fabric ruching' for the top (see reference image) so instead decided to do it my own way and sew lace in the middle panel. This at least still made it look similar. I used bias binding on the neck line. I actually ended up re-doing the sleeves at a later date. I thought my first attempt weren't puffy enough nor did they have the detailing or the bows., These were the tutorials i followed for the new sleeves >> *http://www.burdastyle.com/techniques/puff-sleeve *http://diy-projectcrazy.blogspot.com.au/2012/04/make-puff-sleeve-pattern.html After you have done all of that, sew the top and skirt together and insert a zip at the back.

Now for the jewellery. I made the first set of earrings and dress center brooch out of paper clay. I painted them up, and put a coat of resin over the top. I also glued a flat back gem onto a ring base.... This was fine for awhile but then decided to improve them. I bought some large ball earrings and a large oval stone. I painted them with blue shimmer enamel paint to match the original design. I also made a ring with flat back gems, clay and gold leaf and stuck it onto a ring base.

This step is optional. -------------------------------------------------- I wanted to go the extra mile and use some fabric foil on the detail. I bought the foil and foil glue at a craft store and used a small brush to apply the glue onto my already painted design. I waited for the glue to go tacky and then put the foil on top, I rubbed it down and peeled it away slowly. It revealed a really nice golden shine and texture which almost looks like embroidery!

Shoes! Obviously you could just buy a red pare of shoes and be done with it, but I found some awesome shoes that were really comfortable and under $10. I just needed to change the colour. If you find your self in the same boat: Get your hands on some artist quality red spray paint. Stuff the shoes with paper towel to protect the inside. Give the can a good shake. Test it. Give the shoes a nice even coat. Wait for it to dry then give one more coat for good luck.

Extras. I bought some white long formal gloves and decided to buy some white stockings to wear with the dress. I think this pulls the whole thing together nicely but the tights are optional.

  8. Small 101835 2f2015 03 21 070024 wig

Now, If you don't have blonde hair I would recommend a wig as Peach is known for her full head of golden hair! Also she has big blue eyes so contacts are also a good idea for those who have a different colour. False eye lashes, pick lipstick... it's really up to you!

Done! All you need now is a crown and stitchface turnip. You can find these tutorials in My projects.
