From the Wizard of Oz
This is the Princess of ChinaTown, according to our script of The Wizard of Oz.
She's actually a figurine of porcelain barring the way of Dorothy and the 'fellowship' towards the Emerald City. At least, she was in our play.
Our director made her a drunk to add some hilarity to this scene.

I had a stash of white fabric and some paints and after designing a simple kimono style coat and an 'obi' I made this. There's also a huge bow at the back, attached to the 'obi' with safety pins.

The painting was most of the work. I took some images on the internet as example for the flowers and the kitschy gold edges.
The girl wearing the outfit is going to use it for carnival next year. :-)
