Present Box Made Out Of Money

Cute way to give money as a gift!

Giving money is boring when they open a card and it is just there... It was fun when my nephews and nieces got their little money presents this past Christmas! Some even kept them wrapped up and didn't want to open them... This project is where practice makes perfect. It is also possible to make a long rectangular box by changing the size of the folds in steps 3 & 4. I found steps 5, 6 & 7 the hardest to grasp but then thought of just bringing up the side and seeing where it needs to fold as in wrapping a present. The fold is hardest since you can't have the money flat to do it and it is not pressing against anything as in wrapping a present.

Instructions

  1. Small dscf1016 1293768649

Fold first bill in even thirds lengthwise. Crease it with your fingernail.

  2. Small dscf1017 1293768786

Fold the other half over and crease it as well.

  3. Small dscf1018 1293768813

Fold over leaving about 1 1/2 inches from end and crease.

  4. Small dscf1019 1293769811

Fold over the other way 1 1/2 inches from the other end and crease. This will make a square or rectangle in the middle of the money lengthwise.

  5. Small dscf1020 1293769945

Unfold the sides so that they are sticking upwards with the middle flat on the table. Bring up one of the long sides and fold the money so that a side is made. The fold will cause the long side to raise up forming a side to both the others. Both corners must be made together to let the side be created.

  6. Small dscf1021 1293770122

Here is a different view of how the fold is made. It is like wrapping a present where you fold the paper in a triangle shaped fold.

  7. Small dscf1022 1293770260

Fold the other side as well. It helps if you keep the other sides up so that you can see just where the folds need to be. I folded in the top and brought up the money and folded as needed to make the side of the box.

  8. Small dscf1023 1293770462

Fold the long piece of the money over the new side and then down into the box itself and then fold so that it lays on the bottom of the box.

  9. Small dscf1026 1293770549

Fold up the other end to close the box up on the other side.

  10. Small dscf1030 1293770728

Fold it over the side just created and then on the bottom.

  11. Small dscf1031 1293770777

I then crease all the sides and have a little open box out of the first bill.

  12. Small dscf1035 1293771642

Taking the 2nd bill, measure it against the side of the completed box so that it can be made a little bigger. The top must fit over the bottom. Fold the money as in steps 1 & 2 but just a bit bigger than the 1st bill. This is achieved by not folding the money all the way in even thirds but so that it is just a bit wider.

  13. Small dscf1037 1293771124

The other sides must be a little wider as well so measure them against the 1st box before completing the sides. If you notice in this picture, the bill is folded over where the one side is not quite even with the end so that it has a bigger width.

  14. Small dscf1027 1293771359

Follow steps 5 - 10 creating a slightly bigger box than the first one.

  15. Small dscf1039 1293771466

You now have 2 boxes. One is the bottom and the other is the lid.

  16. Small dscf1046 1293771562

I put quarters in the bottom one or candy. You can put whatever you want inside.

  17. Small dscf1050 1293771837

    Slip top over the bottom.

  18. Small dscf1051 1293771962

This is what it looks like once the lid is all the way down.

  19. Small dscf1054 1293772062

I tied a fancy thread around it and put a tiny name tag so that it looks like a present all wrapped up!
