I made a checkerboard cake for V-Day! It is a Potato Chocolate Cake (recipe from the Idaho Potato Commission), and it is D-lish! I decorated the edges with a mixture of chocolate sprinkles and coarsely ground coffee beans (ground them with a dash of cocoa powder and powdered sugar for sweetness)

Make your batter and split into two equal quantities. Color one with red food coloring and leave the other brown.
Spray pans
Chuck in some flour
And dust evenly all around the base and sides.
Alternate colors into the checkerboard cake pans. Wash the separator between uses.
Carefully remove the separator.
Bake at 375 for 20-40 minutes or until a toothpick stuck into the deepest section of the batter comes out clean. Cool completely on racks. Frost, decorate and Serve!
