lampshade fired in kiln, made out of clay
I sincerely wish I could make this a how two, and it would be a fairly simple "How-to" to make but unfortunately I don't know all the steps involved. Where I currently live there are tours to a nearby city in which they create the clay dome from which you carve your design. Then, when you are finished, they make the holes at the bottom edge of your lamp shade and creat a bottom for it that fits properly. If anyone is interested (Especially those who know of this trip and plan to go on it) I can do a basic "how to" from what I know. If you live in Sasebo and plan to go on this trip, it is about $20 if I remember correctly (I could be wrong please refer to ITT) and remember to pack a lunch! There are no restaurants nearby.
