I went as Pikachu to the rAge gaming expo this year. Here's the tutorial for the headband I made! I also made the bag and the tail. I won the Chopper plushie (in the 3rd pic) at a stall. If anything is unclear, don't hesitate to ask!

Description

I went as Pikachu to the rAge gaming expo this year. Here's the tutorial for the headband I made! I also made the bag and the tail. I won the Chopper plushie (in the 3rd pic) at a stall. If anything is unclear, don't hesitate to ask!

Instructions

  1. Small dscf2032

Draw a Pikachu ear, adding extra space around the side for seam allowance and extra length so that you have extra felt to wrap around the headband

  2. Small dscf2034

Draw the tip of the ears, again allowing space for the seam. The line on the ear is just to show how much extra I added to wrap around the headband

  3. Small dscf2035

One of the ears around the headband to see how long you want your ears and how far down you should sew. Add pins to mark it.

  4. Small dscf2036

Put the other ear's pieces inside out and use the reference to pin the sides together. Pin the other one the same way using the already pinned one as a reference this time.

  5. Small dscf2037

Your ears should now look like this. You can now stuff them until they are as stiff as you want them.

  6. Small dscf2039

Now to make the headband yellow! Use your headband to measure how long and thick your yellow felt should be to wrap around it. Remember to leave extra space so that they can overlap. You can always cut off excess felt later. You may notice that I cut my pieces so that they are narrower at the ends. This just makes it easier to stick because of the shape of my headband.

  7. Small dscf2042

Another pair of hands will be helpful here. While one person operates the glue gun and puts a line of glue on the inside of the headband, the other person must start sticking the felt onto the headband. Be careful because the glue may seep through the felt and burn you.

  8. Small dscf2043

Neaten the edges and make sure everything is stuck on properly. Your headband should now look like this.

  9. Small dscf2044

Position the ears and stick them on, making sure that the middle of the ears sit in the middle of the headband (so that the angle will be correct). When you have stuck one side, stick the other side on, pulling it so that it sits as tight as possible and no or hardly any stuffing is showing.

  10. Small dscf2046

If there is a little bit of stuffing showing, like in the pic, use one of the points of a fork to carefully push it out of sight.

  11. And you're done!
