Acrylic painting of a lovely pierced lady!

A painting done for a local piercing shop :-) So please if you wish to give it a go, don't sell it on :-P Using acrylic on an A4 canvas and only used 2 brushes. I didn't work wet-in-wet for much of the piece as I wanted it to have a very precise and crisp finish. Although obviously all artists have their own preferred way of using acrylics! Colours used where: -Titanium white -Mars black -Burnt sienna -Yellow ochre -Permanent rose -Phthalo blue Brushes used were: -Medium round tipped brush -Extra fine brush for detail!

Instructions

  1. Small 319564 10150258693491150 508656149 7897166 646617 n

I first sketched out my deisgn in pencil directly onto the canvas.

I now began to paint the skin tones. I started with the darkest colours - using burnt sienna as a base. For the lighter tones I mixed burnt sienna, yellow ochre and a very small amount of permanent rose with white.

I then started to add the blue highlights using phthalo blue in varying shades. I was trying to get an idea of where I wanted the hair to lie, so don't worry about being fairly loose with your paint strokes. I also used a very small, thin brush to do the detail of a natural eye. (I like to paint as though I were putting on the makeup myself - by starting with natural skin before adding 'cosmetics')

Now I added the makeup, eyebrows and straps of clothing. The lips were done with permanent rose (again, using the small brush) and I made sure I could still see where her piercings would go. I also used the permanent rose to fill in her clothing straps. If you're not confident painting straight edges, make sure the painting is dry, and use masking tape to get a good edge. The eyebrows were done with burnt sienna and eyelashes etc with mars black. Take your time to try and get the lashes very fine and pointing in the right direction!

Finally I filled in her hair with mars black. Her piercings were done in block black, but while still wet I blended in layers of white as shine. I decided at the end to add the necklace- if you see something you want to add, even if it isn't in your original sketch, let your eye tell you if it will add or take away from the finished piece. Enjoy!
