There are very few things my rats love more than a cozy space where they can snuggle, and while perusing the internet I stumbled upon the idea to make a small "sleeping bag" for your pet. These pockets are incredibly simple, fairly durable, and perfect for small animals like guinea pigs, rats, ferrets, etc. Plus they're super cute :D

Description

There are very few things my rats love more than a cozy space where they can snuggle, and while perusing the internet I stumbled upon the idea to make a small "sleeping bag" for your pet. These pockets are incredibly simple, fairly durable, and perfect for small animals like guinea pigs, rats, ferrets, etc. Plus they're super cute :D

Instructions

  1. Small img 0228

Lay your two pieces of fleece on top of each other, "right" sides facing in. (Not all fleece has a right or wrong side; just put the nicest-looking side in). Using the fabric scissors, cut them to size. 22 inches by 12 inches fits two small rats, but you can change the measurements according to your pet.

  2. Small img 0231

Pin the two pieces together. Sew almost all the way around the rectangle, leaving a small opening. Turn the rectangle inside out and sew up the opening.

  3. Small img 0242

Fold the rectangle in half the short way. (You can leave about an inch of space un-overlapped at the top if you plan to hang the bag.) Make sure the color you want to show when you're done is on the INSIDE. Then sew up the two parallel sides, leaving the top open.

  4. Small img 0244

Turn the pocket inside out to see your adorable pet pocket! Fill with small, furry animals and enjoy.

  5. Small img 0246

Repeat! (I've made about eight pockets because rats have a penchant for destroying things.)

Optional: use safety pins to hang the pocket on their cage.
