This is a project I did with members of my textile group up at The Heathlands Project (a day centre for adults with disabilities.) We wanted to make some Halloween decorations that wouldn't go mouldy after a few days! It's a really easy and quick project requiring minimal sewing skills.
This is a project I did with members of my textile group up at The Heathlands Project (a day centre for adults with disabilities.) We wanted to make some Halloween decorations that wouldn't go mouldy after a few days! It's a really easy and quick project requiring minimal sewing skills.
Cut a circle of orange fabric, we used an old sheet and a small plate as a template.
Stitch a line of running stitch around the edge of your circle, make sure the end is secure as you are going to gather it up and you don't want your stitches to come undone! (You can turn a small hem if you wish but we left ours with raw edges.)
Carefully gather your stitches, creating a pouch.
Add some stuffing, you don't need a lot just enough to help the pumpkin keep its shape.
Fold a piece of pipe cleaner about 15 cm long in half and bend each end out by about 1 cm.
Place the pipe cleaner into your stuffed pumpkin and gather the thread tightly so that the fabric holds the pipe cleaner in place.
Secure with a few stitches.
Repeat until you have the desired number of pumpkins
Thread the pumpkins onto a ribbon through the pipe cleaner loop. You can knot them in place to help secure them. Hang them up and admire!
