Description

I have been making iced coffee since I was a teen, I have always enjoyed the sweet cool drink in the summer. I recently found a cool new(to me) tip on simple notebook.

Instructions

Gather your ingredients... I know, I need milk.

  2. Small dsc01023 1246029723

Place 1/4 cup coffee and 1 cup of water in the jar and stick in the fridge. You'll be leaving it there over night.

This next step is optional, but I think it is the best way to sweeten your iced coffee, so as not to get the crunchy sugar effect. You are going to be making a simple syrup. If you've never done this, it's as easy as it's name. So simple syrup is made by combining sugar to water 1 to 1. You will start off deciding how much you want. If you are going to be making iced coffee all week I would suggest doing 2 cups sugar to 2 cups water. This simple syrup will keep in your fridge forever(not kidding) if it is placed in a clean and secure container. I just decided to make 1/4 cup sugar to 1/4 cup water. Add both to a sauce pan and bring to a boil. All of the sugar should have dissolved by this point. Take off the heat and let cool a bit before adding to a container(you don't want the steam to compress and make the lid pop off your container). Stick this in the fridge.

The next morning roll out of bed and don't worry about brewing a pot of coffee. Get your jar, a measuring cup or something with a spout that can hold up to 2 cups of liquid, a cup of cold water, your cheesecloth and a rubber band. Pour the water into the jar. Place the cheesecloth over the jar and stick a rubber band over the cheesecloth. Now slowly pour the mixture into your measuring cup. You don't want all of the grounds to clump at the top at one time. I slowly turn my jar as I'm pouring.

Remove the cheesecloth carefully and trash it.

Now fill your glass or mug at least half way full with ice. Add your desired amount of milk and simple syrup.

Now pour in your coffee, stir and enjoy!

This last step is also optional. I got this tip from the link above and I love it! So you should have enough Iced coffee to make two cups, but if you are only making it for yourself then you can use the rest in an ice tray. that way the next time you make iced coffee you can use these guys instead of regular ice, bypassing the watered down iced coffee!
