About

Earring Tip: Make the earrings first to ensure that you have enough beads to make a matching pair.

Necklace Tip: It is easier and helps to prevent knotting to work with a shorter length. Therefore, move your needle to about one third of the way along the thread. As your thread becomes shorter you can move the needle nearer the end.

Steps (8 steps, 40 minutes)

  1. 1

    EARRINGS

Choose 6 pearls. Open up a hanging hoop. Beginning with a large, size 8 black rocaille, add alternate rocailles and pearls to your hoop. End with a rocaille. Push the hoop end back into it’s holding. For extra security, gently squeeze the holding with flat nosed pliers.

  2. 2

Pick out 6 more pearls (identical to the first earring). Add to the second hoop in the same way. With your pliers open up the joining loop on one of the long ball wires and attach a hoop. Close the loop tightly shut. Repeat to complete the other earring.

  3. 3

    NECKLACE BASE

Cut 2 lengths of thread, 100cm and 300cm long. Leaving a tail of about 10cm, tie at one end. Thread the 2 ends through 1 size 11 rocaille. Tie on to secure. (This will be the bead your calotte goes round when your necklace is complete). Keep the 300cm as out of the way as possible and add a needle to the 100cm length. Pick up a large, size 8 rocaille followed by a pearl (any colour and size). Continue in this way until your necklace is 58 - 60cm long. To secure the length, pick up a small, size 11 rocaille. Loop your thread round and through again and then tie several knots as close to the rocaille as possible.

  4. 4

    NECKLACE TASSELS

Thread your needle onto the 300cm length. To make your first tassel pick up 1 or 2 pearls (random colours and size) followed by 1 rocaille (large or small). Thread the needle back through the pearls. Pull tight. Thread through 1 or 2 beads on the necklace base. Continue making tassels in this way until you reach the end of your necklace. To secure the tassel length, pass through the last rocaille on the necklace base and knot as before.

  5. 5

    NECKLACE - FINISHING OFF

Add a calotte to 1 necklace end by placing the knotted rocaille inside the calotte. Squeeze shut with flat nosed pliers. Repeat on the other side. Trim off any excess threads coming out of both calottes. Add your bolt ring by hooking the joining loop to the calotte hook. With your pliers, press the calotte hook shut. Add the bolt ring tag, in the same way, to the other calotte.

  6. 6

Cut 3 40cm lengths of thread. Tie together 10cm from end and add 1 small, size 11 rocaille (as you did with the necklace).

  7. 7

Thread your needle onto 1 length and pick up 5 size 11 rocailles followed by 2 or 3 pearls - random colours and sizes. Repeat this sequence, finishing with 5 size 11 rocailles, until your length of beads is 18 - 20cm long. Finish the length by adding 1 more small rocaille. As you did with the necklace, loop round and through and knot several times after the rocaille. Thread your needle onto the second length. Add your bead sequence as you did with the first length. Use whatever colour pearls you like but try to make the sizes similar so that you end up with the same length of beads as length 1. Pass your needle through the knotted rocaille on length 1. Loop round and through and knot as before. Repeat with the third length. To complete your bracelet, add calottes and a bolt ring as you did with the necklace - step 5.

  8. 8

Your finished items should look something like this.
