A fun way to use up fabric swatches or extra scraps!
Very simple placemat project, but one that looks super cute when it's done!

  • Step 1

    Arrange your patches in the order/design you want. Sew them together.

  • Step 2

    Place them on the backing fabric. Fold the backing fabric twice and pin it up over the edge of the patches. (Click the link in the description for a more detailed description.)

  • Step 3

    Sew them down in coordinating thread. Bam. Done. Go eat lunch on it. =P

There's no batting in the placemat, so it's not really quilting at all. It's more like simple patchwork. Plus, the squares aren't sewn down anywhere except the sides. You could definitely add some decorative threads anywhere, though, and give it a more quilt-y look! =D
