all pirates out there are going to love making a new feathered friend to pillage and plunder with. the best part is, your shoulder will be poop-free ;)
hii :) this is my first project, a parrot i made for my cousin.
i hope you like it :D

you can also make other animals using this technique, or go bigger if you want. to make something else, just sketch out a picture and simplify it to make a wire skeleton.

it's a pretty fun project, a little time consuming but worth it <3

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 1
    Step 1

first, you're gonna make a sphere.
start off by making a circle out of the wire. but don't cut off the end yet.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 2
    Step 2

pull the end of the wire around the circle in the other direction to make a sort of saturn shape.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 3
    Step 3

now pull it over one more time in the middle of the two, as shown.

now you can start the beak!

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 4
    Step 4

make a triangle and attach it to the "sphere" like so.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 5
    Step 5

add "depth" to the beak but adding a line of wire from the top of the head to the end of the triangle/beak.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 6
    Step 6

do the same thing on the bottom

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 7
    Step 7

using a long piece of wire, start making a bird's body, leaving a long end (tail) and connecting it to the head and back to the tail (hard to explain, hopefully you can tell by looking)

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 8
    Step 8

do the same thing again but the other way so that a body starts forming, leave the ends there so they make tail feathers.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 9
    Step 9

you can add more wire to the tail if you want.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 10
    Step 10

crumble up some news paper and stick it inside the body and inside the head.

now you can start paper mache-ing!

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 11
    Step 11

i messed up on the shape, so i stuck a little bit of crumbled paper to fix it.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 12
    Step 12

    all better!

    so completely cover your birdie

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 13
    Step 13

i actually forgot to put the legs on from the beginning so this was my improvisation, but i actually like the way it worked out better. it lets the feet move :D

basically, you just kinda poke a hole on each side on the bottom of the birdie's tummy, and tie a strand of wire onto the wire "skeleton" underneath the paper.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 14
    Step 14

make two feet! make the shape shown here, and make sure to connect the ends in the middle.
pull the loose end of it up to a standing position.

    repeat once more.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 15
    Step 15

connect them to the wire thingy on the bottom of the birdie's tummy.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 16
    Step 16

now cover it up, feet and all; just make sure to leave a tiny bit of space between the paper on the feet and the paper on the body, so that the feet move.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 17
    Step 17

if you want, you can add a few strips of paper on each side to make wings for more of a lift when you add the feathers

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 18
    Step 18

now you can paint him :)
i used spray paint, but you can do whatever you want.

you don't have to do feathers; you can paint him and make him realistic looking or cover him in fabric or something; do whatever you like!

but even if you're covering him in feathers, i suggest painting it first so that there are no spaces showing.

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 19
    Step 19

    paint his feet

    and his beak!

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 20
    Step 20

now hot glue the feathers on

cut down two white feathers for around the eyes

  • How to make a parrot plushie. Parrot Pal :) - Step 21
    Step 21

add some other colored feathers to the wings if you want.

    and finally, add the eyes!
(i used a spot of hot glue and paint to make them)

    you're done!!
    feed him some crackers ;)

thanks everyone for your awesome comments <3

@Jet H: it's actually not heavy at all as long as you don't make the "skeleton" too complicated; i feel like it helps a lot with the balance Happy

awesome, well done , he looks great and sooo cool;-D
i think you can shape the body without the ironwire as well with only using paper this cost more skills , or using like i did wrapping things.
then it less heavier as well.
but i like this very much, !!!!
Great tute you've made and thanks for all your effords and the sharing!!!
