Give your heart away!
These paper mache hearts are really fun to make! I love them because although I only made one, the designs and colors are endless! You can make a set of them in all sorts of bright colors with patterns on them. You can make them any size you wish as well. So go on....prepare to give your heart away!

The paper mache mixture that I used in this project was purchased from Amazon.com and is called: Sculptamold Modeling Compound. It came in a 3 lb. bag and is wonderful to work with!

    Step 1

Start by cutting a heart out of cardboard. Any size heart will do. The heart in this project is approximately 3 inches across.

    Step 2

Wad up some tinfoil and place it on top of the cardboard heart. This step allows the heart to be full or plump rather than flat when adding the paper mache.

    Step 3

After adding the tinfoil to the top of the heart, wrap duct tape around the heart to tape the tinfoil in place. This step allows for the tinfoil to stay in place while you are adding the layer of paper mache in the next step.

    Step 4

Add a layer of paper mache to the top and sides of the heart. No need to do the bottom as we will keep that flat for easy sitting on a shelf or a stack of books, on a dresser, etc.

The paper mache mixture that I used in this project was purchased from Amazon.com and is called: Sculptamold Modeling Compound. It came in a 3 lb. bag and is wonderful to work with!

A small mixture (as you can see in the cup size that I used) is all that was needed to add a layer of paper mache to this heart. A little bit of the modeling compound and water was needed, mixed together, and then placed around the heart using my fingers. I smoothed it out as best as possible before the molding compound started to dry.

Once the compound dries completely you can move on to the next step and paint it!

    Step 5

Paint your paper mache heart anyway you like using some craft or acrylic paint. I added a few splatters here and there and once it was completely dry, I sprayed it with some glitter spray to give it a little sparkle!
