Description

This project is cute and imaginative, easy to make, and could be a great little gift to slip inside a card. Encourage reading! Encourage crafting! Encourage monsters!

Instructions

  1. Small img 1043

Cut out the body template piece - the square-with-two-triangles-attached shape.

  2. Small img 1044

Trace this template onto your pretty piece of card stock (or onto the plain piece of card stock that you intend to decorate), and cut the shape out.

  3. Small img 1046

Using your ruler and the tip of your mechanical pencil with no lead showing, score a line (drag the tip firmly along the paper so it makes an indent) along the edges of the square that connect to the two triangles.

  4. Small img 1048

If you want, cut a square of pretty paper slightly smaller than the one you used for your template and glue it onto the square portion of your shape.

  5. Small img 1049

Fold one triangle inwards along the line you scored, so it covers the upper half of the square.

  6. Small img 1050

Apply glue to the underside (the side still facing up) of the second triangle...

  7. Small img 1052

... then fold that glue covered triangle over onto the first triangle.

  8. Small img 1055

As in step 4, if you’ve used plain card stock and want to glue fancy paper on top of it, cut a triangle out of your fancy paper that’s slightly smaller than the folded-over triangles of the bookmark. Glue the smaller triangle on top of the larger, folded-over ones.

  9. Small img 1057

Cut out the eye and teeth pieces from card stock and glue them in place (the teeth get glued behind the long edge of the folded-and-glued triangles). Try making up other monstrous features, like horns or wings or long forked tongues. Cut out different features to make a bookmark that looks like a cat, or an elephant, or an iguana.

  10. Small img 1088

Use by slipping over the corner of the page you wish to mark, like a pocket.
