Description

I'm making this bag for my aunty who loves owls I hope you like the tutorial and I hope it's clear enough ^^

Instructions

  1. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 081354 img 0781

Cut four squares of the fabric, two from the owl fabric and two from the lining fabric. You can make them any size you want, but mine measured 39cm x 45cm

  2. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 081519 img 0782

Sew on a pocket to one side of the lining squares

  3. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 081540 img 0783

Now sew the two lining pieces right sides together down the two long edges and along the bottom.

  4. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 081601 img 0784

Sew "space" into both bottom edges of the linings

  5. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 081652 img 0785

Sew along the line and trim the triangle using pinking shears, and repeat steps 1-5 again for the owl material (the pocket is optional)

  6. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 082113 img 0788

Now take your owl fabric and cut out the handles. I measured mine 89cm x 7.5cm

  7. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 082203 img 0790

Press them each in half, then fold over the two outer edges, like this:

  8. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 082306 img 0792

Fold back in half again, pin and sew along both edges. They should look like this:

  9. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 082442 img 0793

Now pin the handles to the outside of your bag. I pinned mine 5cm away from the seam on either side.

  10. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 082530 img 0794

It will look like this: ! make sure the straps aren't twisted at this point, otherwise you'll be doing a lot of unpicking !

  11. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 082627 img 0796

With both your handles pinned/tacked in, place your owl bag inside your lining bag. The lining should be facing wrong side out

  12. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 082810 img 0797

Pin around the top, leave a 3" gap and sew around the top. I backstitched all of my handles. to add extra strength.

  13. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 082952 img 0800

Now turn your bag inside out. Try not to stretch the gap too much, otherwise there'll be puckers when you come to topstitch it.

  14. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 083013 img 0801

Here's the finished bag! (nah, just kidding) ^^

  15. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 083122 img 0802

Press around the top of your bag, making sure you fold the ram edges of the gap inside

  16. Small 102241 2f2014 05 31 083150 img 0803

Topstitch around the top (this adds extra strength and also covers the gap that you left for turning)

  17. And you have your finished bag Thanks for looking at my project!
