Hoot. Hoot. Otto loves his treehouse home in the woods and wants to remind you to be kind to the earth by recycling and reusing everyday items. Use your creativity and do your part by repurposing old, felted sweaters to make this adorable stuffie. Weight the owl with craft beads and create a useful pincushion or stuff him with wool batting to create an extra snuggly toy for your favorite little one.

Instructions

  1. Small 106747 2f2015 01 12 163040 owl cutout sq

Print pattern to standard letter size paper and cut out pattern pieces using craft scissors. Place trimmed pattern pieces on felt and carefully cut fabric to size using a pair of sharp fabric scissors.

  2. Fold the eye panel in half so that it bisects the beak and whip stitch the beak edges together. With your fingers, press beak up into a three-dimensional shape.

  3. Small 106747 2f2015 01 12 164546 owl emb sq

Attach the eye panel to the main body panel as follows: working clockwise from upper center point of the panel, attach eyes through front body panel only with large, evenly-spaced stitches that stretch from the outer edge to a single convergence point at the center of each eye.

  4. Fold bottom corners of the ear pieces to the center and pin between body panels aligning center point to marks on either side. Beginning at lower right-hand edge and working around to the lower left, whip stitch panels together using yarn. Take special care to needle through all three layers at ear panels and be sure to leave bottom section open for insert panel.

  5. Small 106747 2f2015 01 12 164915 owl wing

Arrange wing overlay on top of wing panels and stitch pieces to the front of the body together.

  6. Small 106747 2f2015 01 12 165317 owl stuff

Stuff owl firmly with wool batting. You may want to add craft beads as well for additional weight if you are planning to use Otto as a pincushion.

  7. Small 106747 2f2015 01 12 165345 owl base

Place insert panel into the opening at the bottom of owl body and whip stitch body cavity closed.
