You Will Need (7 things)

  • Washi Tape : Patterned pink, standard Other assorted patterns and colors
as desired
  • 1 sheet of translucent Vellum Paper
  • Small Bead(s) , pearls, and
star charm
  • Straight Pin
  • Head Pin
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Ball chain Necklace

Steps (11 steps, 35 minutes)

  1. 1

Stick an 11-inch (27.9 cm) length of patterned pink washi on a piece of vellum, aligning the long side of the washi with the long side of the vellum.

  2. 2

Cut the vellum along the other long side of the washi with the ruler and the sharp craft knife. You now have a strip of washi-covered vellum that is 11 inches (27.9 cm) long and as wide as the washi.

  3. 3

Make a loop with one end of the taped vellum piece as shown.

  4. 4

Place the short end of the strip through the loop as though you were making a knot, as shown.

  5. 5

Press the knot down flat, then fold up the short end and tuck it under the fold of the knot. You now have a piece that looks like a small hexagon.

  6. 6

Fold the other longer end of the strip in the natural direction it wants to go, around and around the hexagon. Tuck the last small bit of the strip into the last folded layer.

  7. 7

Place one of the points of the hexagon between your thumb and index finger and pinch it to create one of the star points and slightly fluff and plump up the star’s body. Repeat this step for all other points of the hexagon to complete the star.

  8. 8

Poke a straight pin into the concave section on the bottom of the star and then straight up and out of the star’s opposite point. Remove the straight pin.

  9. 9

Slip a couple of beads onto a head pin. Insert the head pin into the hole at the bottom and then out the top of the star. Create a small loop in the head pin at the top of the star with needle-nosed pliers. String the star onto a ball chain necklace.

  10. 10

    VARIATIONS
Use a head pin with a loop at the bottom to hang a dangly charm.

  11. 11

Add beads at the top of the star to add more color and length.

Use thicker strips of washi-covered vellum to make larger stars and thinner strips of washi-covered vellum to make smaller stars.
